Written Reflection:

Paper three was different than our previous papers because it challenged me to educate myself on political polarization. As someone who isn’t interested in these subjects, I needed to do extra research to understand what I would be writing about but also if it fits into a politically polarizing category. The topic I decided to go with is gun control. Everyone in the Untied States has an opinion on gun control because of its role in politics. To back up my claim and find solutions to this issue, I had to find supporting sources. In the second to last paragraph, it describes one of my solutions. I was able to integrate multiple sources by using the Barclay formula. This template helped use multiple quotes that included a claim and explanation to make the paragraph flow better. I used this method in both of my solution paragraphs because I felt it helped support my argument that my solutions would work, by including evidence and reasoning. Since this was our second time including outside sources I improved greatly on finding credible websites to support my claim. Lots of people have opinions on gun control so it was important to make sure each source was credible while also being appropriate to match the contents of my essay. I integrated previous reading material into my argument in the middle of my paper to show how social media has had an impact on gun control. Readings like “The Coddling Of The American Mind” and “Small Change” both contain excellent evidence that the political polarization of guns has been impacted by the political party’s use of social media. Since this paper had so many different drafts due, it was important to proofread and make sure my work was accurate throughout the entire essay. When including different quotes from multiple sources it can make the essay sound choppy instead of flowing smoothly. Continuing to make proofreading and editing a priority helped me correct many sections of my paper throughout the writing process.
